Fine chemical raw materials are likened by the industry to "industrial MSG" - used in tiny amounts, but capable of greatly increasing product energy and even breaking industry "ceilings".
The lithium supplementation additive developed and mass-produced by Shenzhen Yanyi New Materials Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Yanyi") is just such an "industrial MSG". It significantly enhances the energy density of lithium batteries, multiplies their lifespan, and greatly increases the range of new energy vehicles.
Yanyi is one of the few companies globally capable of researching and producing a full range of lithium supplement additives, with its products being used in bulk by leading companies both domestically and internationally. Currently, the company is setting up a new production base in Longhua District with an annual capacity of 22,500 tons, helping Shenzhen build a new generation of world-class automotive city and ultra-fast charging city, accelerating the construction of a trillion-level world-class new energy storage industry center.
Lithium batteries have an energy density 'ceiling' due to lithium ions being lost as they flow from the positive to the negative electrode. Lithium supplementation additives act as pioneers, smoothing the path for lithium ions to travel. "These additives are like 'industrial MSG'," explains Dr. Qian Chao, Dean of Yanyi Research Institute and Assistant to the President, holding a small vial of black powder. "Though they make up less than 5% of the total ingredients, they significantly boost product performance, even breaking through the 'ceiling'."
Dr. Qian notes that current ternary lithium and lithium iron phosphate batteries have reached their energy density limits, failing to alleviate "range anxiety" for new energy vehicle owners.
"The industry's pain point is our breakthrough opportunity," Dr. Qian asserts. Led by lithium battery expert and founder Mr. Yue Min, Yanyi's R&D team developed two lithium supplementation additives: LNO (lithium-rich nickel lithium oxide) and LFO (lithium-rich iron lithium oxide). These additives precisely supplement and maximize the electrode material's potential, dramatically increasing battery energy density and lifespan.
In large outdoor energy storage applications like power stations and base stations, a 10,000-cycle lifespan is the benchmark for "high-performance energy storage batteries," with most currently achieving 4,000-7,000 cycles. Tests show that adding just 3% LNO additive can extend battery life to 10,000-12,000 cycles. These additives are poised to become standard in the energy storage industry.
Yanyi has built a formidable intellectual property portfolio, filing over 270 patents (70+ granted) and drafting 7 group standards. Their patents span binders, separators, electrolytes, additives, and lithium supplementation additives.
Dr. Qian reveals that the company's R&D team now comprises over 300 members, mostly high-caliber talents from prestigious global universities with extensive research experience. This includes more than 40 full-time PhDs. Their two lithium supplementation additives have already entered mass production, garnering recognition from top clients worldwide and enabling an annual battery cell production capacity of approximately 5GWh.
To meet the surging demand from the new energy sector, Yanyi is investing over 1 billion yuan to establish a new production base in Longhua District, Shenzhen. This state-of-the-art facility will feature self-designed equipment and processes, offering high capacity, energy efficiency, and ecofriendliness. Once completed, it will increase Yanyi's annual lithium supplementation additive production by about 22,500 tons.
